My path to the field of counseling has been a winding one and I wouldn't have it any other way.  Having grown up in a small, Tennessee town, I moved away to the Nation's Capitol to make a name for myself in the realm of politics.  In Washington, DC, I had the honor of working for two Tennessee Congressmen and handling legislative issues that ranged from foreign policy to education to animal welfare.  This experience led me into the field of animal and child welfare where I became the Legislative Director for the American Humane Association (AHA).  During my time at AHA, I learned of the capacity for humans to inflict untold damage and pain on other living creatures as well as their capacity to offer unlimited love and compassion to those in pain.  I walked away from these experiences in public policy knowing that my purpose was to take this knowledge and begin working one on one with others to begin to heal a legacy of violence, neglect, and trauma.  To begin that journey, I completed my Masters of Counseling at Trevecca Nazarene University and spent years honing my skills at Integrative Life Center, a unique treatment center in Nashville.  Just as importantly, I began doing my own work - emotionally, spiritually, and physically - to heal myself.  I am now in private practice in East Nashville, where I have lived for over 18 years.  In my spare time, I love to hike, backpack, camp, kayak, play tennis, read, write, and spend time with my family, friends and pets. And I listen to waaaay too many podcasts!
